Berkeley County Among Top 100 for Housing Growth, Census Says

The sea of new housing developments in Berkeley County has placed the area in the Top 100 fastest-growing counties in the U.S., according to a new report by the Census Bureau.

The federal agency estimated 75,846 homes were in the county as of July, a gain of 2,472 from April 2010, or 3.4 percent more.

The county has witnessed a surge in new home growth with large-scale developments such as Cane Bay and Carnes Crossroads.

Berkeley was ranked 95th in the Census report and one of only two South Carolina counties to make the list. Jasper County was ranked 98th. It gained 344 homes, or 3.3 percent more than the 10,299 homes in 2010.

At the top of the list was Williams County, N.D., which was estimated to have a 40.2 percent
