Viva Recycling, formerly known as Tire International, is expanding with the help of $15.7 million in financing provided by the S.C. Jobs-Economic Development Authority, the authority announced Monday.

The expansion is creating 60 jobs and setting a goal to surpass 100 new jobs by the end of 2013. The company manufactures products from recycled rubber and is in the process of renovating, retooling and expanding at its site on Cypress Gardens Road in Moncks Corner.

The development authority issued bonds to help finance the expansion.

“With (the development authority’s) help we’ve created a zero-discharge plant that is both environmentally and economically responsible, and we’re bringing new jobs to the community,” said Marty Sergi, CFO of Viva, in a news release. “In a short few months, we’ve taken a failing business with a growing environmental problem and converted it into a thriving enterprise, now fully in compliance with the state’s environmental laws.”
