Regal Logistics Grows in Berkeley County

A logistics company with operations in Berkeley County is expanding its presence, and among its future deliveries will be 30 full-time jobs and more than 50 seasonal positions.

Fife, Wash.-based Regal Logistics recently purchased a 351,000-square-foot existing building at 1980 Technology Road in the Charleston Regional Business Center. The modern tilt-up concrete panel facility is "designed for high-volume, quick-turnaround, retail-compliant shipping" according to a news release forom the S.C. Department of Commerce and the S.C. State Ports Authority.

Nationally, Regal has more than 1.3 million square feet of warehouse space. The company opened a 50,000-square-foot shipping center in Berkeley County earlier this year.

"Regal's expansion in Charleston is in direct response to manufacturers, importers and exporters' demand for an ideal East Coast ship point to satisfy major retailers like Walmart," said Regal Logistics Vice President Gary Neeves. "We're confident that Regal's facility will attract new business to the area in the form of manufacturers and importers shipping product through the Port of Charleston for distribution to major retailers in the East. In fact, it already has."

Regal's new place is three miles from Interstate 526, four miles from the Port of Charleston's Wando Welch Terminal and offers foreign trade zone and drayage zone status for less expensive container transportation to ports.

The company, in business for more than 40 years, offers a menu of shipping and warehousing services. Regal distributes customer product to major retailers including Walmart, for which Regal is an authorized trailer pool facility, Target, Kmart/Sears, JCPenney, Kohl's and Toys R Us.

Hiring for warehousing and administrative positions at the Berkeley County facility will begin next year, with an average wage ranging from $11 to $18 per hour. Qualified candidates should contact the company.

South Carolina is home to more than 470 warehousing and distribution centers, employing more than 34,000.
